New releases incoming!

October 8th, 2009 No comments

The last 2 days have been quite busy for me and someone already noted about my absence. Sorry, Fleur :-*

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup will be releasing a minor upgrade from 0.5.1 to 0.5.2 soon. Keskitalo and me haxed together a git branch to make zips with Windows binaries of future releases cross-compiled on Debian more easy to do. Run update.sh, wait a bit, hit enter a few times… Tadaaa :) Shell scripting coupled with git haxz0ring is just awesome!

Additionally Tremulous will release a beta of 1.2 soon – after a felt decade since last release :D Seems like it will feature developer team moderated servers and this server will help providing a European point of presence. Lakitu7 and me have setup a vserver without CPU virtualization and a preliminary beta tremded.x86 is running… Let’s hope it works as expected!

Good luck to all participants for successful releases!

Napkin> I started to learn a lot about that since I started working here
Napkin> need to deal via email with mostly british and american people
Napkin> sometimes I hate to always have to be friendly, constructive and
political correct *sigh*
xxxxxx> It’s the main reason I reduced my activity on [zzz] :)
xxxxxx> I find it very tiring to participate in these discussions without
being rude :)
Napkin> heh
Napkin> I have the same problem with the [yyy] project
Napkin> admins arguing and discussing and flaming
Napkin> I just get all tired when reading it.. and angry and sometimes miss
the tone then
xxxxxx> I do it at work for a living, so I don’t want to come home and find
my free time filled with more-of-same
:)
Napkin> can’t put it any better – exactly that
xxxxxx> It’s a lot easier to hang out with friends instead :)

First autumn rain…

October 7th, 2009 No comments

Of course I was just about to leave the office.. when I was greeted by this:

Wet feet!

Wet feet!

Considering what I heard about how little it had rained this year and how low the water-levels of rivers (especially the Rhine) currently are I guess it’s a good thing.

I wasn’t too motivated to step out that door though! Especially looking at the Aquadrome-like environment..

But as with many good things…
Why can’t they wait until I’m home?!

Note to self:
“Two umbrellas” is a nice idea… Bad idea to have both of them in the car :D

iNove theme is great! FF’s color correction sucks!

October 6th, 2009 1 comment

I liked Grey Matter a lot but Cardiano was right – just a bit too boring.

Fusion had some nice features too but the lack of configuration (especially the default font size and page width for new visitors) was a turnoff and fiddling with JavaScript is not my idea of having fun.

PrimePress and R755 both where nice and clean but just a bit too bright. I like bright but not that bright.

One theme I saw was out of all leagues (and I mean that in a good way too): Code is poetry!

In the end I decided for iNove by NeoEase. Links to dark red.. Tags a bit better displayed.. The huge RSS icon removed.. Looks a lot better now, I think. I like it too! And again kudos to Fleur for enduring my flood of request asking for her opinion about all those tiny details! :)

Oh.. And all PNGs and JPGs converted to GIFs.. you ask why? I’m using FireFox 3.5.1 at work and its color correction sucks greatly! The bottom and footer images were actually corrected to brown and didn’t fit at all anymore! :-O

Apart from that – WordPress’ administration interface is really great. And I mean it! – Says the one who usually prefers a plain text file and good old trustworthy Vim!

The wonderful world of a million themes…

October 4th, 2009 No comments

Omg, I’ve been searching for a few hours now and haven’t found a theme yet to which I was able to agree to at first sight. Don’t get me wrong, there are quite a lot nice ones out there – some with amazing features and additional theme options to choose from – but I just seem to be too picky?

Nevertheless, I need to decide for one of those I installed and then will start hacking. Fleur is helping me rule out the ugly ones :D I’m glad about that.

I think this should be enough text to see how multiple posts look.

Laters!
