Notes about: CUPS & Samba & Windows

December 29th, 2009 No comments
  • CUPS states that printer names may contain any printable characters except “/”, “#”, and space. But if you intend to also share that same printer through Samba you might want to make sure the name you choose also does not contain certain characters (any of %<>*?|/\+=;:”,) invalid for Samba…
  • If you ever intend one day to delete a printer in CUPS (because you cannot rename them) you should also adhere to that Samba name-restriction because otherwise you may not be able to do so – at least not with the administration interface…
  • How the frack do you make a Windows Vista show computers in the same network but not in the same “workgroup”? Changing the “workgroup” of a Windows computer really still needs a reboot? Jesus..
  • The network printer shows “Access denied, unable to connect” in Windows?
    Then you should add

    use client driver = yes

to the printers section of smb.conf…

Quote of the day

December 15th, 2009 No comments

“It wasn’t your fault, [...] wasn’t your fault! If I had never been in your life..”

“Fuck you! If you hadn’t been in my life I wouldn’t be who I am. You’ve given me confidence… and the support. You’ve been the one constant – the one constantly good thing in my life!”

Dexter, s04e12.
